Before even deciding which college you ultimately want to attend, you have to apply to get in.

An application fee is the cost that a school charges to review your application and decide if you should if you should be admitted to the school. The fee covers some of the manual labor involved. Some schools also charge a fee to ensure the students are serious about attending if accepted.


The average cost of a college application fee is $43, so if you apply to 10 schools, you’ve already spent $430 before even stepping foot on campus.


It will be a relief to know that there still are some schools out there that actually do not charge anything to apply to their school. Yes, you read that right, for some schools, it’s free to apply to college.
